Not All Sunsets Are Beautiful – Tax Cuts & Jobs Act 2026 Expiration – Finger Financial Five #168

Jobs Act 2026

“Every silver lining has a touch of grey.” -Grateful Dead

When I was a kid, I was fishing on the banks of the Little Pee Dee River. I heard this loud roar and could not figure out what it was. Then I saw the rain pouring on the other side of the river and coming my way. It was almost like the cartoons where it’s storming in Georgia and the sunshine starts at the Florida state line.

The 2018 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is set to expire at the end of 2025. See the Individual Income Tax Rates below:

As you can see, the rates go up for the current 12%, 22%, 24%, and 32% brackets.

You may want to take advantage of Roth conversions if you are in a lower income bracket today. That means moving money from a pretax IRA account today and paying taxes at today’s (presumably) lower rate.

For example, let’s say a married couple is filing jointly in the 22% bracket in 2024. They move $30,000 from their pretax IRA into their Roth IRA and pay 22% Federal income tax. They avoid paying the future 25% income tax.*

Obviously, check with your CPA before you make any decisions.
