“Never test the depth of a river with both feet.” – Warren Buffett
Retire now, but with training wheels.
Did you instantly know how to ride a bike the very first time? I did not. I had training wheels and took them off myself only after I felt I “got the hang of it.”
What does this have to do with retirement?
Many people feel they are “stuck” and have to retire fully to live the life they want. Like a bike with training wheels, you can test retirement.
Here is how…
- Work part time instead of full time.
- Work remotely in a location where you would prefer to live.
- Change your work to something less stressful. The idea could be to retire into doing work you love.
- Outsource the parts of your work you dislike
- Take vacation days to “pretend” to be retired. Maybe rent an RV instead of purchasing one.
- Stay in an AirBnB in a city you are considering moving to. Here is a Retirement Relocation Checklist.
