An Underused Strategy For Financial Freedom – Finger Financial Five #119

“We have met the enemy and he is us.” – Walt Kelly’s paraphrase of Navy Master Commandant Oliver Perry’s letter to Major General Harrison.

This blog will most likely be the one least read and certainly, the least followed.

Why? Because it is not a “how to” blog. It is a how-to-BE blog.

Huh?

Think of “how to” like an edge of a sword you use to cut through the financial jungle. If I do Social Security maximization strategies, then I will get this. If I do Roth conversions, then I will pay less taxes and that will mean this. Etc. etc. etc.

There is another side to that double edge sword. It is probably the least sharpened. This side is used to cut away the anchors that hold us back. These anchors or beliefs take away our peace. Raise our anxiety and make us less happy.

How do we address these beliefs? Well, that is an inside job. We work on ourselves.

How to do that? Look within. Look inside yourself. Be responsible for how you feel and what you think. Peel back the onion and look at what is inside. When you see something that is tempting you to blame the world, ask what is your part. What is your responsibility in that belief? When we take responsibility that gives us power and we no longer are the victim.

Make a habit of self-reflection.

You may find that you want less but have more.

What?? How can I want less and have more? First, if you want less then there is an appreciation for what you have already. You notice the abundance in your life. Second, as you move forward, you start to feel a freedom, a lightness. This lightness in you brings more clarity. You start to see possibilities that you couldn’t before. Moving forward becomes fun instead of a grind.

I am reminded of a line in my favorite movie, The Matrix. The main character was trying to bend a spoon with his mind. The teacher said that is impossible. You must realize that it is you yourself that bends because there is no spoon.

When you change yourself the world changes.

I just got back from the Elite Wealth Advisor Symposium. My main takeaway is that there is a lot of innovation that is happening, especially with artificial intelligence.

AI can be a tool to help you live a better life.

What innovations do you use to help you live a better life?

On the lighter side, we are going to the University of South Carolina this weekend for Elliott’s orientation to be a freshman this fall. I am having a little anxiety about being an empty nester. I am thinking of new hobbies to occupy my time.

I hope all is well with you and your family,

Jeremy
