Retire Now, But With Training Wheels & Advice For Northerners Who Now Live In The South – Finger Financial Five #72

"Never test the depth of a river with both feet."

Retire now, but with training wheels.

Did you instantly know how to ride a bike the very first time? I did not. I had training wheels and took them off myself only after I felt I “got the hang of it.”

What does this have to do with retirement?

Many people feel they are “stuck” and have to retire fully to live the life they want.  Like a bike with training wheels, you can test retirement.

Retire Now

Here is how…

  • Work part time instead of full time.
  • Work remotely in a location where you would prefer to live.
  • Change your work to something less stressful. The idea could be to retire into doing work you love.
  • Outsource the parts of your work you dislike
  • Take vacation days to “pretend” to be retired. Maybe rent an RV instead of purchasing one.
  • Stay in an AirBnB in a city you are considering moving to. Here is a Retirement Relocation Checklist.

Here’s an unrelated tip to northerners enjoying their first spring in the South … do NOT leave windows and doors open for fresh air.  Why? In the South we have a period of time called “pollening” when huge pollen clouds leave a dusty yellow glaze on everything.  Wait until we have a few good rains that wash the yellow away.

On the lighter side, Elliott and the Myrtle Beach High School Seahawks won the pre-season tennis tournament in Florence, SC. This is the second largest tournament won by Myrtle Beach High School  It is surpassed only by the State Championship won in 2019. Elliott played #2 Singles and #1 doubles.  They clinched the win with the #1 doubles win after being tied 3 to 3 in matches.

I am heading to Dallas for a business planning mastermind meeting. Then I head to Page, AZ to hike 34 miles in Antelope Canyon on Saturday.
