“Laugh when you can, apologize when you should, and let go of what you can’t change. Life is short, yet amazing. Enjoy the ride.” – Positive Thoughts
The Fed is trying to reduce inflation by slowing the economy. They do this by raising interest rates and reducing the amount of money available in the economy. Some critics have said that, if the Fed had started sooner, they would not have needed to raise rates so much and so fast. I agree.
The Feds actions are similar to the way my son stops at a red light. Elliott runs up to light and slams on breaks. Not good for him, the car, or the drink he is trying not to spill.
Unfortunately, we are the ones riding in the Fed’s car and we feel the shock. The good news is stopping quickly is better than running the red light and getting t-boned.
I talked about interest rates and market outlook with Senior Portfolio Manager and Certified Financial Analyst, John Nichol, on a webinar we had earlier this week.
Highlights from the conversation are:
- Expect higher interest rates in the near future.
- Markets could remain choppy in the near term, but there could be pockets of opportunity.
- Bonds have been hit, but now could be attractive.
- Recession overseas is more likely than in the U.S.
- Get more interest on your cash cushion.

On the lighter side, I got a new grill that uses wood pellets for fuel. I can set the temperature like an oven. Because the heat isn’t direct, it takes longer to cook, but the taste is a lot better. Kind of like taking your time and slowly stopping at the red light. The fish, steak, and chicken turn out fantastic. The food from the first cook was Family Approved!
Iren and I saw the Falcon 9 rocket from the beach early this week. Absolutely amazing what science and technology can do.
Hope all is well with you and your family,
Jeremy
